Dear Colleagues

As the President of the Foundation for Polish Science I am cordially inviting you to register for our annual international FOCUS workshop which in 2008 is devoted to cancer biology.

The FOCUS programme itself has been designed to support young scientists (PhD level) who envisage to establish independent research groups; the 2008 edition covers molecular and biochemical research on cancer. The above-mentioned Workshop plays a crucial role in identifying potential international teams who could apply for these long-term subsidies in order to launch independent research groups and build new laboratories in Poland. Therefore we foresee thematic panels with prominent researchers as chairs/ key speakers followed by presentations and discussions of young scientists focused on their achievements and projects.

This event will be based on a unique interdisciplinary approach: examining cancer and cancer genesis by researchers involved in biology, biochemistry, clinical medicine and other relevant fields. We expect, as an outcome, a high level exchange and a deeper understanding among the participants not only as to medical aspect but also biological structures of cancer. Thus, the scope of the event comprises important cancer sites, molecular and cell biology of cancer and cancer genesis and stem cells.

We are soliciting short oral presentations as well as posters and we strongly encourage you to consider submitting.

The Workshop will be hosted by the Foundation for Polish Science, in cooperation with the German Research Foundation (DFG), the British Council (International Network of Young Scientists programme) and Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (INSERM). We will cover all the costs concerning  participation in our event. Also, the logistics between the conference venue and the airport are ensured by the organizers.
